Supervision is a central ethical and clinical practice in psychotherapy, shaping therapeutic judgment, professional development, and client safety. This advanced supervision series brings together five integrated webinars that examine supervision as a relational, developmental, and ethically complex process across the supervisory lifespan.

The series begins with core supervisory methods, including process supervision and taped supervision, focusing on how supervisors engage with live clinical material, affective process, and difficulty in both clients and supervisees. It then addresses the ethical and legal responsibilities of supervisors, clarifying duties of care, boundaries of liability, and the distinct nature of the supervision relationship.

Attention is given to the developmental needs of novice practitioners, including learning tasks, contracting, and the gradual internalisation of good clinical practice, before turning to the unique challenges of supervising experienced clinicians, where collaboration, uncertainty, expertise, and power must be navigated with care. Contemporary issues in online and digital supervision are also explored, including confidentiality, boundaries, technological competence, and risk.

Running throughout the series is a sustained focus on power and vulnerability in supervision—how authority, evaluation, difference, and narcissistic sensitivity shape supervisory relationships, and how supervisors can remain reflective, ethical, and relationally grounded when these dynamics become challenging.
