About This Webinar

As telehealth becomes an increasingly permanent feature of mental health care, clinicians and supervisors are increasingly being called upon to develop new competencies for effective online therapeutic work. Recent research highlights the importance of ongoing professional development in telehealth practice, digital communication, ethical decision-making, and emerging AI integration.

This practical webinar explores how supervisors can support novice practitioners in building confidence, competence, and reflective awareness in telehealth delivery. Drawing on recent research across counselling and allied health settings, the webinar will examine key telehealth competencies, commonly used technologies, and practical ways supervisors can identify and address competency gaps in supervisees. Through case examples and discussion, participants will consider how competency-based supervision can assist novice clinicians in navigating the unique demands of online therapeutic work.

The webinar will also explore practical telehealth etiquette competencies, including online presence, communication style, therapeutic boundaries, professionalism, and management of the digital therapeutic environment. Using clinical vignettes and reflective discussion, participants will be encouraged to consider both supervisee development and their own areas for growth as telehealth practitioners and supervisors.

The final section introduces the emerging role of AI in mental health practice and supervision. Participants will examine the opportunities and challenges associated with AI integration, including enhanced accessibility, impacts on the therapeutic relationship, and ethical considerations. Practical case material will help identify areas where novice practitioners may require additional guidance, reflection, and supervisory support as digital technologies continue to evolve.

The webinar concludes with an open discussion and reflective Q&A exploring key insights, challenges, and future directions in telehealth supervision.
