GLOBAL EXPERT SERIES
Humanising Mental Health Care

By Dr Joan Haliburn

About This Webinar

Cumulative trauma is not a new concept. It was described, along with its effects by Masud Khan, psychoanalyst, only to be sidelined by Freud’s fantasy theory, after which the ambivalence towards trauma, particularly sexual abuse in the young was approached with ambivalence, perhaps indifference. The effects of trauma on the human psyche saw several revivals, however, the biological paradigm certainly held sway and continues to do so in the approach to mental illness.  In this webinar, Dr Joan Haliburn will address trauma theory, trauma-informed care, psychological, physical and social costs of neglecting trauma. Dr Haliburn will also discuss the reasons why trauma-informed care is required particularly in the mental health field. Webinar will also look at future needs.
