GLOBAL EXPERT SERIES
Jung and Individuation

Live Webinar: Saturday 17th Oct 2026

Dr Glen Slater

About This Webinar

The psychological concepts of Carl Gustav Jung are widely recognised yet often only partially understood. This webinar offers a clear and accessible introduction to Jung’s central ideas, with particular attention to his model of adult psychological development: individuation.

Individuation refers to the lifelong process through which distinct yet interrelated aspects of the psyche become differentiated, integrated, and more consciously lived. The process begins with an awareness of the social self or persona, which in turn opens exploration of disowned, rejected, or underdeveloped dimensions of personality known as the shadow. From there, participants will be introduced to Jung’s understanding of the personal unconscious and its organisation around emotionally charged psychic structures referred to as complexes.

A defining feature of Jung’s psychology is his view that the personal unconscious is shaped by deeper transpersonal patterns or archetypes, which arise from what he termed the collective unconscious. This distinction marks an important divergence from many classical psychoanalytic approaches and provides the foundation for Jung’s broader understanding of symbolic life, myth, spirituality, and human development.

The webinar will progressively move toward an exploration of the archetypal background of the psyche and its significance for individuation. In doing so, it will consider how Jung’s ideas continue to illuminate contemporary psychological suffering, identity formation, meaning-making, and the existential challenges of modern life.
